Sequoia Highlands is about 15 miles, 35 minutes, from Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks, an area full of beautiful natural sights.  This photo was taken at Zumwalt Meadows along side the Kings River, about 75 minutes drive from the Park entrance.  To get to this site go first to Grants Grove and then continue on up into the parks, towards Road's End.  It is a long drive, but beautiful all the way!  You will also go by Boyden Cavern and several waterfalls as you drive alongside the Kings River most of the way.  Please note that there is a entrance fee into the Parks of $20 per vehicle for a one-week pass or $30 per vehicle for a one-year pass

Please look on the Directions/Maps page for a map of the local attractions.

Grant's Grove is about a 30 to 40 minute drive from Sequoia Highlands.  The big trees are some of the largest living organisms on the planet and some are over 2000 years old.  There is a visitor's center and restaurant at Grant's Grove, and many hiking trails in the area.

BuckRock.jpg

Buck Rock.  There are a series of fire lookouts in the National Parks.  One of them, Delilah, is adjacent to Sequoia Highlands.  The one in this picture, Buck Rock, is just off the General's Highway, about 45 minutes from the park entrance.  The fire lookouts are usually open to visitors, but don't go up if you are afraid of heights!  The view from the top is breathtaking.

Hume Lake beach

Hume Lake is about 25 minutes from the entrance to the Parks.  It is a large lake formed by an historic dam built in the early 1900's.  You can rent boats and canoes and there is a large white sand beach which is excellent for swimming.

MoroRock.jpg

Moro Rock is about an hours drive or more from Sequoia Highlands, down the General's Highway from Kings Canyon to Sequoia National Park.  There are hundreds of steps carved into the rock with handrails, which makes it a safe and secure way to mountainclimb, and fun for the whole family.  The views along the way and at the top are spectacular.  If you go to Moro Rock or Crystal Cave and other sights you might want to do this on the way home, and exit via Three Rivers, then on Hwy 198 through Visalia.

CrystalCave.jpg

Crystal Cave.  There are hundreds of caves in the Parks, and new ones are still being discovered.  Two that are open to the public are Boyden Cave, on the way to Zumwalt Meadows to the north, and Crystal Cave which is off of General's Highway to the south.  Note that if you want to see Crystal Cave you must go first to the Wuksachi Village Visitor's Center for tickets ahead of time which you should purchase at least an hour ahead.

The Dunlap Hang Gliding Launch is next to Sequoia Highlands.  For more information about this, click on the photo, which is a link to the local hang gliding association.
